My students all have labels that follow them wherever they go. They are the students with Autism, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, emotional disorders, and ADHD, just to name a few. They are assumed to be the "behavior problems" and the ones that don't go with the flow. Without their consent, they are constantly being defined by labels. But you wouldn't know that if you met them. My students are bright, energetic learners. They aim to please and are devastated when they fall short of the mark. They talk constantly with their peers and teachers about ways to make their brains grow. They love books, "tricky" math problems, and completing science experiments. They come from differing economic backgrounds, support systems, and special needs, but, when you boil it down, they all love to learn and I love to teach them.
