Many of my students are shy to acquire a new language. This may be because of a new culture, a former crisis in their homeland, or lack of formal schooling before coming to America. Our entire schools is for newcomers. It is awesome to see the children grow, develop and learn throughout the year. It is through play and materials that each child can get the skills needed to become an excellent speaker, listener, reader, and writer. I work with the youngest children in the school, and feel that this is the cornerstone of their academic career. It is imperative that I provide positive opportunities that will impact academics as well as developing skills for learning a new language and culture at such a young age.
