Our students are amazing--so eager to learn about the STEM courses and their real-life applications. We are a public high school with approximately 2700 students. Most of our students are considered socioeconomically disadvantaged since more than 75% qualify for free or reduced lunch. The majority of our kids do not have computers, printers nor Internet access at home for homework; they rely on the computers and printers in our library before and after school to do their assignments. Some of our students have jobs afterschool and weekends to help the family make ends meet. A small portion of our students is homeless and live at the nearby motels. Our students have had little exposure to real-life applications of science. Their laboratory experience was limited to theoretical concepts and simulations. The goal of our science program is to provide a rich and meaningful STEM experience, where students can use math, science and technology to solve everyday questions.
