My students are typical elementary school age children, ages 5 to 11 years old. They are creative, willing to learn, and excited about art! Many of these children do not have the needed art supplies at home and school to help them create and learn through art. For some students, my classroom once a week is the only exposure they receive to the visual arts. As an art specialist, I hope to give them life-long skills in drawing, painting, sculpting, etc. that will help raise their self-esteem and give them opportunity for creating projects of their very own. They study about art history and master artists' lives, then produce projects similar to the style of a specific artist. Some of their favorites are Wassily Kandinsky's Abstract Art and Pablo Picasso's Cubism portraits!
