Urban students are a melting pot. They come in various shapes and sizes. They are energetic and excited about learning. Authors like Gary Paulsen and Mildred Taylor are new, exciting, and fun. Some students live far away from the library and don't have a Kindle or an iPad. If a donor adds to our classroom library students will appreciate the gift of education through books. Having access to titles within the classroom will encourage them to read. I believe that if "we" give them the tools they will rise to the challenge. Read is fundamental and having access to a variety of texts will promote literacy and give them joy for many years to come.
