We are a title 1 community learning school, that serves students Pre-K to grade 5. Our commitment is to ensure students have the necessary tools for success. I'm a 3rd grade teacher with a diverse population of students that have one commonality, they lack everyday school materials. We try our hardest to provide the school supplies but is not always possible. One way to help my students to focus, grasp, and retain information are charts. My students are so engaged by these charts that they want to make their own. We use the computer to make them bright but we lack the ink to print them and magnets to hang them wherever they are more useful. Take ownership of making the charts will improve the engagement and my students will pay more attention to organization of information, editing and accuracy. The majority of my students don't have a computer at home and they are proud to be able to use a computer to create something for our community. The charts have become anchors for success.
