Because we are a high poverty district, many of our students do not have access to books outside of school. Our school library receives minimal dollars from our school budget and often relies on private donations, grants, and profits from our yearly Scholastic Book Fair. It is difficult to keep up with the demand for suitable reading materials for our students, not to mention decorations or comfortable seating. With a record number of students active in our Title I program, it is important to keep our library up-to-date by showcasing new authors and current materials in a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere. In doing so, we are able to intrigue even our most reluctant readers.
