My students come from predominately low income community with over 80% second language learners. These students have very few opportunities to experience life outside their immediate neighborhoods so novels are a great way to expand not only their thinking, but their knowledge of the world. Most of these students do not own their own books and are rarely read to at home, so having the chance to be read to in class is a fun experience for them.
