I teach at Title 1 school in an urban school district. My third graders come from very diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. They have all had different life experiences, which makes it challenging, yet exciting, to meet their academic, social, and emotional needs in the classroom. Each year, our third graders must pass the state-mandated IREAD3 test in order to move on to the fourth grade.
At the beginning of the school year, the incoming third graders are all reading at different levels ranging from below grade level to above grade level. It is my role as an educator to differentiate my curriculum throughout the school year to ensure that my students reach their highest learning potential. This project would provide my students with the opportunity to use technology to improve their reading comprehension skills, vocabulary knowledge base, and fluency rates. Third graders love technology and are eager to use electronics to make learning and reading more captivating and engaging.
