In the past I have used individual white boards during guided math to give students a math problem and have them work them out on their white boards. This helps students show their thinking and it helps me see which students are getting it and which students need more stupport. I dismiss the students that got the concept we are learning to work on other problems independently at their desk while I get a chance to work with students who are struggling. This helps advanced students work at their own pace and it helps struggling students get the time and support they need in a smaller group. Unfortunately, I am at a new school and I don't have any white boards.
