We are a high school of about 2,500 students and growing every year. Also growing is the population of special education students. Because of that, our school has adopted the co-teaching model. I love working with my co-teacher and we seeing the progress in our students. Many of our students we will have back again next year for 10th grade English and will get a new group of 9th graders. Our students are eager to learn and desperately want to do well. Although they struggle greatly, they are motivated but lack the tools to do well. They all want to go to college and many are involved in sports and/or clubs. We have a fair balance in gender and while our school is predominately white, many of our special education students are of color. Most of them have to work twice as hard because of their disabilities. Keeping focus for 88 minutes in 8 different classes is very tough. Our job is provide them with as many tools and resources as we can to foster learning in and out of the classroom.
