I teach in a 5th grade classroom in an urban school district. My students are an energetic group of students! We are in a school that offers many different programs for our children, including: Dual Language Immersion, English as a Second Language (in English-only classrooms), Bilingual Education, Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and Special Education. We serve a very diverse population with over 60 percent of students living in poverty; almost all of the students in my class make up part of that 60 percent. We are also unique in that minority cultures make up not only the majority in my classroom, but also the majority of our school population.
