One of the things I love most about my classroom is that I always have a diverse group of students. The school I teach at has a population that includes 28% minority students, 13% bilingual students, and 13% special education students. Fifty-six percent of the students receive the free and reduced lunch our school offers. Many of my students are not lucky enough to have books or resources at home to quench their thirst for knowledge. In our school, 34% of students come from economically challenged homes. Having a full classroom library will give students who come from these homes more opportunities to read books that they can relate to and feel successful with. I have changed grade levels this year. While I have built quite a large classroom library since I have started teaching, I find that I do not have the proper reading materials to meet the needs of new my students.
