My students will know right where their place is on the rug. I will be able to call on students by color to read a sentence, answer a question orally, or be excused to their seats for independent work. This rug will be the place where students gather at the beginning of the day for calendar and opening activities. After lunch, the students will gather on the rug for a read aloud story. I had a rug like this when taught first and 2nd grade in the past. I had to share a classroom for 2 years when I was an intervention teacher. Because my space was limited, I donated my rug to the after school program.
