Often my students are allowed to read a book in class, but are not encouraged to take them home. Doing this stops them from building a relationship with the text they are reading. This unit will allow them an opportunity to engage with the texts that are about multicultural protagonists, that will allow them a taste of social justice warriors! This unit will speak to them, with characters they can relate to, while working in a supportive book club unit, thus helping them improve their reading and comprehension through multiple texts. This unit will be approachable and will require students to read at least 2 of the books within a timely manner, hence the need for multiple copies.
