My students are predominantly Latino students from working class families. They are bright and enthusiastic about learning, but they don't have access to technology in order to meet the expectations that the science curriculum requires and that puts them at a disadvantage compared to other students that have more resources than they do. Our school is a Title I school the teachers are all working hard at helping our students meet the new Next Generation Science Standards which require students to use both engineering and modeling practices. We are trying to implement researched based practices to help our students learn and process new information. However, students share the limited technology available at our school which means maybe they can use laptops or tablets once a week which is not enough time to look up information and use it in a meaningful way. This is where the added technology would benefit my students.
