Students have to have their own space in a classroom. It allows them to take ownership and feel comfortable learning. First grade is a year when students are becoming more confident and exploratory in the educational experience. My students come from a community where they may not have their own space at home. I want them to know when they enter my classroom, there is always room for one more.
