My class is made up of eight year olds who are hungry for information. Many of my students come from an English Language Learning background, and qualify for free or price reduced lunch. Due to their economic need they do not have many opportunities to access rich, appropriate literature, as well as areas where they can enjoy reading. My third grade students face the demands of having literature skills that require them to be able to choose appropriate books that will assist them in gathering information. In our K-8 grade school we (teachers, parents, students and support staff) believe every student can succeed! Our school motto is "I can" meaning that everyone can succeed and achieve their goals. I believe that this project will enable my students to feel confident as learners by choosing the appropriate literature, acquiring the reading goals and skills that they need to succeed while falling in love with reading.
