Middle school is a time of developing individuality, discovering unknown potentials, and cultivating skills. At I.S. 349 in Bushwick, Brooklyn, my dance students are learning to move in ways that express themselves individually, and trying on new dance forms to broaden their experience. They explore other cultures through movement and gain insight about their own world through these new experiences. Our dance classroom is a place for students to release some of their tension while building strength and coordination and developing cooperative skills that transfer to all components of their lives.
