My sixth grade music students focus on the "Modern Band" experience. They address developmentally appropriate standards of music education by learning and practicing basic skills on guitar, bass guitar, piano, and drums. They incorporate their English Language Arts knowledge by writing song lyrics and identifying meter and rhythm in poetry. Students help drive the curriculum by applying their own interests and passions to their projects. The electric guitars and bass guitar will give the students an authentic Rock Band experience to bring their creations to life. Every single sixth grade student in our school will have the opportunity to perform their music on these instruments for their peers and teachers. Hopefully this experience will empower them to continue performing music outside of school and in turn provide them with a creative outlet to express themselves.
