I am the librarian for a small school in Oklahoma. Like all schools in Oklahoma, the budget is tight and there is not extra money which means there are no new books for the library that services our kindergarten through fifth grade students. Many of our students come from families with low socioeconomic backgrounds. The district is responsible for putting all the resources they need in their hands. Library books are one of the most important resources yet when the budget gets cut, the library is one of the first one to loose their money so we rely solely on fundraisers to earn money to buy new book and replace old ones that are showing the signs of many years of use.
