I teach at a large urban high school in California, and I love my students. The EL geometry class is specially designed for the newcomer students whose English is their second language. Most of them come from low-­income neighborhoods, and many do not have money to buy their own calculator. My students are passionate about learning math and looking forward to going to college after high school. I believe that having a calculator will benefit my students to develop a greater interest in learning because we are living in the world of using technology. If my students can have a chance to get exposed to the advantage of using calculator, I believe that they will have a more successful experience in learning math.
