My students come from all different backgrounds, contributing to the beautiful diversity that makes up my class and school building. However, with my limited book selection in my classroom library, I feel like I'm shortchanging them. They need to see and feel representation in everything that we read together, especially what they read independently. I selected these books so that I can help enhance and inspire their love of reading. I will be using these books in my class during independent reading, and students will have to write reaction papers based on detailed higher order critical thinking questions. They will also be able to take these books home.
