The students that come through my classroom each year are from small town, hard working families. Our school is a community of learners where everyone from the teachers, to the support staff, from the community members to the parents, want each child to be successful! We are unique in the fact that there is only one section per grade in our K-6 school. This means that each teacher truly gets to know each family and each family gets to know the teachers! Students get excited for each year, as they know what some of the activities and highlights of each grade are. In my second grade classroom, I think one of the things that students look forward to is getting to become more of a "grown up" reader as we go more in-depth to learn about reading chapter books through partner reading and book clubs! I feel strongly about giving students time to read and talk about good books with their peers, as I know many families do not have the time or resources for a lot of reading at home.
