Alternative seating allows for my students to have a voice in how they want to actively engage in their learning environment. They know best what their little bodies need at any given moment and the traditional chair and table doesn't work for every student. Currently, my students have a choice where to sit during independent work time. Many of them are choosing to work in various areas around the room using scoop rockers or bathmats to define their workspace. Flexible seating allows my students to choose options that best meet their learning needs, whether it be more wiggle time or a seat that allows them to collaborate with a friend. Our classroom needs more options to accommodate the diverse needs of our learning community. The wobble chairs, wobble cushions and stacking stools will help create an engaging environment of choice for each child in our kindergarten classroom.
