My students come from very diverse backgrounds and have very diverse needs. While they are excited about school and learning, they must work through the personal challenge of overcoming either cognitive, behavioral, and/or emotional disabilities. I teach with a special educator who helps to service over 10 special needs students at time in a classroom of 30! And while our "learning ohana (family)" is always willing to help one another, we warmly welcome all the help we can get!
A vast majority of our students also come from military families. This means they bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the classroom as they have lived in many places and have often faced many difficulties--deployment, and frequently moving to name a few. Their lives can be very unpredictable, and they often have to pick up and move every three years with little notice. Yet despite these great challenges, our students are resilient, driven, and completely excited about math and science!
