My school is located in a very small town with little exposure to global events. Students come from from very diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds. This, however, has never been an issue for this wonderful group. They embrace their differences and effortlessly find commonalities. They are very responsible as I promote a non-traditional classroom atmosphere that welcomes movement, choices and freedom. I love the higher order thinking process that I see developing each day. They ask extremely relevant questions, which, when possible I attempt to lead them to the answer, rather than just telling them. My favorite quote is from Albert Einstein: "It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge." These words capture my desire for my class. I believe that the class subscription to "National Geographic for Kids" that I have requested will do just that......awaken joy and knowledge as they search for their own global answers .
