This is a Title I school located in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Most of our students are within the proverty line and are not in positions to fund themselves. We have found ways to help students find their interest level in reading, however if the books are not available in school there is no way for them to acquire them. I have found so many interesting things out about my students this year through their reading choices and I believe it would be so beneficial for them to be able to do an author study on an author that they are already familiar with. It is difficult to get 11 year olds to enjoy reading, but this year we have been able to accomplish that.It is essential to show these students that with hard work, we can get anywhere. This is a project that many of my students have wanted to get started but without the right materials it is near impossible.
