Some of my second grade students started second grade at a beginning of kindergarten level while the others started at a beginning of first grade level. As of January, they have all moved multiple levels to either be reading at a middle first grade level or beginning second grade level. They are making tremendous gains and I'm very proud of the grit they show everyday. My students have the desire to want to read on grade level. They just needed some intervention this year. Our school's focus is on reading, and these students are finally feeling successful along with their fellow classmates.
