I teach in a title 1 school in a high poverty area. The school I teach at is a community first school. We reach out to the families of our students and provide them with many programs and activities to do with their children. Our school has a literacy theme night each month and a class to teach English to our Spanish speaking parents once a week. In my kindergarten classroom 90 percent of my students come from a home where Spanish is the main language spoken. My students are hard workers and love a challenge. They come into my classroom with limited English speaking skills to being able to read sight words and have a full conversation with me, other teachers, and more importantly, the other students in the school. I set high expectations for my students and they rise above and beyond what I require of them. I am very honored to teach this unique and special group of kiddos.
