The students I work with vary not only in age but also in ability. My kids struggle developmentally, emotionally, cognitively, academically and behaviorally. I see students individually and in group sessions. The students and I build relationships that can develop up to and over four years which allows me the opportunity to make great gains with them. We develop trust in one another and I stand with them through personal struggles, both at school and at home. My kids are supported at our school through a variety of staff; however, the relationships I have the opportunity to build are sometimes as powerful as the education they get in the classroom. In addition to the students I work with on a regular basis, I also see students with everyday struggles such as bullying, divorce, self-esteem and friendship issues. These issues can distract them from paying attention in class or getting the education they deserve.
