These students are children. They are children that were born in a dangerous city where the joys of playing outside are not possible. They love being introduced to new things that they normally wouldn't see. They are explorers when it come to new topics, and foreign cultures and countries. We have been doing research projects on animals and publishing them. These children are so interested in informative texts that they can't get enough. They have an unquenchable thirst for new things, ideas and information. They also, though, need and look for support and love. Many of the families in this area are supportive, but lack the means to truly lift their child up so that they can see beyond the city. They are also appreciative of the work we do together for the children. Each student has his or her own identity, but it's always fun to see that blossom and grow during their second grade year.
