There are 15 mixed-age Pre-K children in our classroom, ages 3, 4, and 5. These precious little ones are energetic, inquisitive, unique, and humorous. Our school is a family school, which educates children in Pre-K thru grade 8. We are located in an urban district and the majority of our students live in the nearby low income housing complex. Our city is ranked the most dangerous city in the country, so our children come to school on a daily basis dealing with tremendous social and emotional issues. We operate on a schedule that is consistent and repetitive. This consistency and repetitiveness enables our children to feel secure and prepared by being able to predict what will happen next in their daily activities and routines. It's tight, but warm and welcoming, and is arranged to make sure that activities, materials, and equipment are physically accessible and usable by all the students.
