My students are "Super Stars". The class consists of a mixture of 11- and 12-year-old African American and Hispanic inner-city students. They are eager to learn and especially enjoy learning using technology whenever it is possible. "STARBURST" students engage each other in academic conversations and challenge each other in a positive and encouraging manner. They are also very well rounded; and although many face various struggles daily, they find joy in a variety of activities. Sports, music, drama, and art are a few of their varied interests. Our school is a family school, which means it houses grades Pre-K through 8th grade. We are a family, and because our students are housed in the same building for such a long time, we get to know most of their academic, social, emotional, and physical needs. We use this knowledge to meet their varied needs as we aim for them to become confident thinkers, readers, and problem solvers for today's world and tomorrow's challenges.
