My school is a K-5 elementary school in an urban setting with about 560 students. This year brought the addition of the bilingual program with one class of each grade level. The students are a variety of nationalities, many are low income. Many struggle with academics and the process of learning to read. As the school media specialist I have the opportunity to see all 560 of them every week. My job is to support and extend what is going on in the classroom, and to help them select appropriate reading material.
