I teach at a school that has a high percentage of children from low-income families in North Carolina. The students that I work with have disabilities in basic reading, reading comprehension, and reading fluency. My students want to read and enjoy books, however, their inability to read fluently and comprehend what they have read affects their love of books as well as their self-esteem. Working on their reading and comprehension skills with books helps, but it doesn't keep them focused and engaged nearly as much as working on these same skills while using a technology.
