I work for a school where a majority of the children come from low income families. While we are not currently labeled a bilingual campus, many of the students still have a bilingual background. Our school is a newer school and we are still currently building resources. Literacy is a primary focus because we understand the importance of this foundation to support the rest of the academic and life success. There is also a big focus on science as the name sake of our school was a science teacher. With the children coming from low income homes many of the parents work long hours and do not have the opportunity to spend a lot of time with their children. Also, these kids do not have access to a multitude of learning resources because the money spent in their home is just to support food and shelter.
