I am a French teacher in a public school in the city of Chicago, with students representing the wonderful diversity of our city, racially, ethnically and socioeconomically. My students are bright, motivated and excited to spread their wings as they learn this lovely language. They enjoy learning in creative and interactive ways and are open to the many challenges of French as they move into more advanced levels. I use many different types of media to expose them to spoken and written French, from websites to film, to music, newspapers, magazines and short stories. We recently had a guest speaker, who spoke to them about the difficulty of young girls receiving an education in the Congo and shared with them her organizations`s plans to reopen a small boarding school for a few girls from several villages in the western DRC . After the presentation, several of them approached our guest and offered to find ways to help. I was so proud of them!
