I teach in a small school with grades K through 2. After 2nd grade our students attend our sister school in grades 3 through 5. My students come from a variety of backgrounds, families who have been homeless to families that struggle to make ends meet to families who live in affluent homes. This mix of family backgrounds keeps us grounded to work together to fulfill the purpose of education and acceptance of others' differences. I often have students with special needs who come to me from the special needs preschool program in our district. My special students teach my regular education students many things about acceptance and working hard to attain goals. I believe my greatest challenge is to create an environment that provides the acceptance and love all students need modeled for them at this age which will follow them in their school career.
