My school community is a diverse group of highly motivated students, especially when it comes to the Arts. This scaffolding of their experience in Visual Art throughout their elementary school years allows for continued growth and development in all areas of visual art, including painting, drawing, sculpture and collage, as well as introduction to some of the major figures and movements in the history of art. Students in my Brooklyn, NY program come from areas all over the globe, including, but not limited to Korea, China, Russia and the West Indies. We have a large ESL population every year, as well as Special Education Services. New York City is indeed a melting pot, and these students come together not only in my school, but in a place like the Art Room, where barriers can easily be transcended through the language of Visual Art.
