Over 90% of the students in my school are on free and reduced lunch. This fact reflects the availability of resources like computers and Internet access in their homes. Many students look forward to coming to school to get a chance to use a computer but, with classroom sizes in the building growing rapidly, they do not consistently get the opportunity. Resources in the school are becoming less and less available with many students only having access to computers when taking standardized tests. My school district is turning more and more to the resources of individual parents instead of relying on the resources of the community as a whole. Some schools in my district have begun rely on parents to purchase Chromebooks for their students. This is simply not a reality in the high-poverty school where I teach.
