I have around 100 chemistry students in a given year. They are a part of a rural district that only has 500 students in the high school level. Many of my students plan on continuing their family farms, both produce and animal, and need a strong science background in order to do so. They participate in Ag Science and FFA and Chemistry gives them supplemental information that will be very useful over the course of their lives.
