I am a elementary teacher at an arts integrated magnet school. Our program is unique in that, in addition to teaching the common core curriculum, we infuse the arts in many things we do. Our students benefit from having exposure to, and participating in many visual arts, musical and performing arts opportunities. We essentially use art to teach and to help them demonstrate their learning. But a wonderful program like ours cannot be taught in just any classroom. Much of what we do requires a high level of visual presentation. Students study digitized paintings and video presentations through our LCD projector while I help them synthesize this information with chart paper and the white board. I model writing, questioning for reading, math problems and directions on paper while always trying to keep my presentations fresh and engaging for kids. On any given day I use a large amount of chart paper and other resources to create and recreate this information for students to resource.
