My students are in the 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. They auditioned and were accepted into our music magnet program. The students are learning how to read music by learning both the stringed instruments and the keyboard. My students range from beginners to early intermediate. We have performances throughout the year but ultimately work toward our "end of year" performance. Our students come from different types of backgrounds. Our school gives our students the ability to learn two instruments at the elementary level. Due to budget cuts to fine arts programs, our school remains the only one of two elementary schools in our county to offer a music magnet program. Our school does not receive any funding for our magnet program other than teacher salaries. Any generosity toward our program would greatly help me achieve my ultimate goal as a music teacher - the development of the whole, well-rounded child.
