My students are amazing, resilient, and passionate. They care about the community. We are a Title 1 school, with nearly 100% free/reduced meals. Many of the students have endured hardship or trauma ranging from homelessness to violent crimes, the loss of a parent or sibling, or abuse. Despite these challenges, our students show up and give their best everyday. Most of the AP students have not experienced the rigor of a college level class, and it can be daunting. This is particularly true when nearly half of the students are below grade level in reading/writing and more than 30% require Special Education services. The amount of reading, homework, and writing required is more than most have ever experienced. Despite these challenges, student choose to take the AP classes and we welcome all students who seek the challenge. Indeed, we encourage students to take the challenge and pledge our support in their endeavor.
