I teach in an urban school district where 100 percent of my students are receiving free breakfast and lunch. They are mostly all second language learners who have to work harder than most of their peers to learn. They are extremely hard working, and they have a real thirst for information and news. They love to write, be read to, and conduct Science experiments. They little "love notes" bring tears to my eyes on a daily basis. With their limited English and supplies, they try to pen their thoughts in their writing, reading, science, and math journals. I think the greatest quality my students possess is their appreciation for even the smallest gifts, like their monthly pencil. I have a large class, almost 35, but we only received $100 to purchase classroom supplies. Learning can be a struggle for them all, but they inspire me and make me want to be the best teacher for them.
