In an effort to ensure my students have every academic advantage necessary to excel in our community and, perhaps most importantly, society at large, I am reaching out in hopes that you will join me in my classroom’s donation program. Microsoft founder, Bill Gates, is quoted as saying: “If you give people tools, and they use their natural ability and their curiosity, they will develop things in ways that will surprise you very much beyond what you might have expected.” Unfortunately, in these dire economic times, the ability for both parents and school systems such as ours to get the tools necessary to help our students surprise all of us beyond expectations has been jeopardized. That is why I am asking for your help in donating a class set of headsets so that my intensive reading students may have access to simple, yet necessary, programming such as Read 180 Universal. This class set of headphones will not only help students better concentrate while completing computer work but also, create an individualized lesson that targets their specific needs. Read 180 is an innovative blended learning solution by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, built to ensure all readers are on track to college, a vocational career, and beyond. This program is a research-based program with proven results in raising student reading achievement by using cutting-edge technology that delivers individualized reading instruction for each student, which motivates them to become confident lifelong readers.
