The library is an essential resource for our students. Many of them do not have access to books at home and rely on our school library to check out high-quality books. As the school librarian, I would like our students to be able to see themselves in the characters and cultural information that is represented in our library. In looking at our collection, I found the nonfiction selections in the geography section needed to be updated to include current information and reflect the diversity of our student population. I am asking for funding to purchase a series of nonfiction texts to inform students about countries around the world and cultures that may be different from their own. In this way, I hope students of all cultures will see themselves represented in our collection, and gain a better understanding of the diverse make-up of the ever changing world around them.
