My students are an exciting bunch! They attend an Elementary school in the South Florida Region. The school is located in a low socioeconomic neighborhood where the majority of the students are on free or reduced lunch. The financial restraint of families forces many students to attend school unprepared for learning. The students are often without basic school supplies such as sharpened pencils, paper, books and erasers. Students do not have reading materials at home that can help to reinforce skills taught in school. This lack of resources does not affect their enthusiasm to learn. Many students come to school one hour before start time just to participate in additional tutoring. They have the opportunity to use computers to complete assignments and practice reading skills.
