"Empathy is about standing in someone else's shoes, feeling with his or her heart, seeing with his or her eyes. Not only is empathy hard to outsource and automate, but it makes the world a better place"-Daniel H. Pink. This quote resonates with my 3rd graders who are very concerned about fairness in the world. My 3rd graders are very excited about reading and are especially concerned with fairness in the world. They are very much into protecting our environment and especially intrigued by the animals that roam it. I teach in a public school that is considered Title I based on lower income levels of the majority of our families. My students love to read but many are unable to purchase their own novels to read in class. Many times I will read aloud from one book to the class. However, it is always more exciting to follow along and read when you have a copy of a book in front of you.
